Job Description

Location: OKC

Schedule: Mon-Friday

Hours: 8-5pm

Pay rate: $25hr

 Responsible for the application, modification and adaptation of analytical methods and procedures in the performance of a variety of tests/examinations of human tissue, fluids and/or other substances in the clinical laboratory. Work assignments are in such specialization as chemistry, hematology, coagulation, serology, immunology, urinalysis, and microbiology.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty, including mental and physical demands and OSHA requirements satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Performs phlebotomy when required and withdraw appropriate quantities of blood by venipuncture, capillary, and/or arterial puncture as required using appropriate age specific techniques. Performs quality control (QC) procedures, proficiency testing, and maintenance on laboratory equipment according to clinic and manufacturer standards, policies and procedures. Follows accreditation standards, regulatory agency requirements and institutional policies regarding blood borne pathogen, internal/external disaster policy, infection control, chemical hygiene, fire and electrical safety. Sets up, operates and/or utilizes appropriate equipment, instruments, containers and other devices and materials to perform qualitative and quantitative analysis of substances. Evaluates the specimens for integrity and analysis, evaluates post analytical test results, distributes test results appropriately and reports test results to medical staff as required. Assists in maintenance of lab supplies to ensure an adequate supply is available. Notifies the Lab Director of low stock. Processes orders for lab supplies on a monthly basis. Maintains laboratory areas and equipment. Keeps lab and medical areas clean and orderly.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES None

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Associate's Degree with accreditation from an accredited organization, such as AMT or ASCP & BOC

LANGUAGE SKILLS Employee must speak, hear and read English.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Employee is required to complete basic mathematical computations as related to health information and laboratory reports.

REASONING ABILITY Employee must demonstrate ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of variables; ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram or schedule form. Under general supervision, makes decisions that directly affect patient well-being with high consequence of error.

WORK ENVIRONMENT Employee is regularly required to talk and hear English, stand, walk, sit, use hand to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms. Required to use computer and medical laboratory equipment. Employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Employee may utilize team lifting techniques or use of mechanical patient lift to assist with lifting or pushing patients over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision and the ability to clearly focus vision. Employee must maintain confidentiality, security and integrity of patient data and information according to privacy regulations, including HIPAA. Employee assures that the Mission, Vision, Core Values and honoring and respecting native traditions are walked out; adheres to relevant standards and policies and standards of relevant regulatory agencies. Employee participates in clinic performance improvement activities to measure, assess and improve the quality of patient care. Employee participates in clinic involvement and/or committees as needed or assigned to position. Employee must consistently be courteous to patients, staff and visitors. 

OSHA CATEGORY Employee works in a laboratory setting, and performs tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues. Employee is expected to adhere to safety standards, including appropriate vaccinations, to mitigate risk of exposure.

 

SAFETY SENSITIVE Due to the safety sensitive nature of this position, medical marijuana license holders who test positive for marijuana will not be qualified for this position. 

Job Requirements

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Registration as medical laboratory technician required with the American Society of Medical Technology (ASMT,) the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or similar agency.
